Arise Therapies is excited to announce a new and innovative therapy tool coming to our clinic called Interactive Metronome!

What is Interactive Metronome?
Interactive Metronome (IM) is an evidenced-based training and assessment tool designed to improve timing, rhythm and synchronization in the brain. Many research studies have demonstrated evidence to support the effectiveness of timing and rhythm training on enhancing skills such as attention, cognitive processing speed, working memory, auditory processing, motor coordination, balance, and gait. IM incorporates this evidence to address auditory-motor synchronization. Interactive Metronome activates the brain areas involved in motor performance and engages the timing centers of the brain. The connection between these areas of the brain improves through repetition of the exercises and timing feedback, and the process of motor control (movement) and ability to learn becomes more automatic and efficient. Interactive Metronome is the only program that measures and provides feedback for millisecond timing.

What does an IM session look like?

  • Participants in an IM session are instructed to coordinate various hand and foot movements to a tone/beat heard through headphones connected to the IM software.

  • Your trained therapist will adjust the tempo, feedback, and motor demands to assist in providing the ‘just right challenge’ to support success and progress. Interactive Metronome provides detailed information regarding measurable progress to support advancement toward goals.

  • Treatment duration varies based on the individual, however 12-15 30 minute sessions are recommended initially.

  • Progress and response to treatment will be assessed throughout the course of intervention and communicated with family/clients to assist with ongoing treatment plans.

Who can benefit from IM?
Timing skills are essential and foundational for all we do. Therefore, individuals of all ages have found IM training beneficial. This includes:
