Christmas OT Family Activities

WE REALLY LIKE these great activities! Try these with kids and grandkids over the holidays. Special thanks to Emma Mace, one of our OUTSTANDING Occupational Therapists at Arise for sharing this great and festive content.

HAND STRENGTH:

● Winter Animal Walks

  • Polar Bear

  • Penguin

  • Moose Walks

● Making homemade dough- bread, playdoh, salt dough

● Build house (for Santa, reindeer, gingerbread man) with legos

● Stirring, scooping during recipes

FINE MOTOR/VISUAL MOTOR:

● Stringing popcorn for Christmas Tree Decorations

  • Take a large needle and push popcorn through

● Allow child to assist wrapping a gift-

  • Use fingers to hold down ribbon

  • Fold wrapping paper

● Write Thank You Notes for presents

  • If working on copying letters, you write the note & have child copy

BILATERAL COORDINATION

● Use cookie cutters to cut out playdoh shapes or cookie dough

● Make candy canes with pipe cleaners & cereal pieces (form into the cane shape)

● Cut out paper snowflakes

● Use leftover wrapping paper to practice cutting skills

  • Tearing (for little ones)

  • Snipping

  • Cutting lines or shapes
